CC   -!- FUNCTION: Plays an important role in promoting lung pathology in
CC       both primary viral infection and secondary bacterial infection.
CC       Promotes alteration of mitochondrial morphology, dissipation of
CC       mitochondrial membrane potential, and cell death. Alternatively,
CC       inhibits the production of interferon in the infected cell at the
CC       level of host mitochondrial antiviral signaling MAVS. Its level of
CC       expression differs greatly depending on which cell type is
CC       infected, in a manner that is independent of the levels of
CC       expression of other viral proteins. Monocytic cells are more
CC       affected than epithelial cells. Seems to disable virus-infected

CC       proteins participate in the formation of the permeability
CC       transition pore complex (PTPC) responsible of the release of
CC       mitochondrial products that triggers apoptosis.
